Hi there and a warm welcome to all new subscribers, great to have you over at The Dream Catcher!
Things about December
120 years ago, Mickey Mouse was born!
Full moon this month is known as the Full Cold Moon
Birth flower (as well as Holly) is the paper-white narcissus which symbolizes sweetness
8th of the month is ‘Pretend to be a Time Traveller Day’! How cool is that. Where would you go?
Update on Serialisation
The final episodes of Thunder Moon will be published this month. As you know these have been free to all subscribers of The Dream Catcher. The second part of Season One in the Luna Legends is Barley Moon and will be serialised from January 2022. This will be a paid subscription and you will have a monthly and an annual option to choose from. I’d love to have you along. If not, no worries you’ll still receive my bimonthly newsletters on the free option.
Writing with the Soul
I’m never too old to learn and last month I completed a writing course with a difference, delivered by Adrienne Young. This wasn’t about processes or tactics or the practicalities of writing, of which I’ve done a few. This was more about how to deliver yourself into your story telling, make more connections through your own experiences and developing a voice of your own. At 58 years young, I was definitely one of the senior members of the group. I’m at a different season of my life, thank goodness, and have experienced some of the emotions and thoughts that the younger crew are currently going through. Nevertheless, it did help me accept that I have developed my own style and that it’s more than okay to do that.
On My Reading Table
These are the books I’ve been reading this past month, let me know what's been on your TBR list.
Skye In The Deep by Adrienne Young (tutor on my course and highly recommended)
The Dressmakers Gift by Fiona Valpy (hard to read but couldn’t put it down)
The Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb
Going Short: An invitation to Flash Fiction by Nancy Stohlman
Flash Fiction
This piece was quite popular this past month, the prompt word being neighbours.I’ve been doing the #vss365 for almost a year now (I started December 10th 2020) and it’s become part of my daily routine.
I watched from behind the curtains as the nasty neighbours were evicted, the torment vanishing like a puff of smoke. But then the sobbing started, seeping from the walls and windows day and night. When I finally broke in, the creature in the cage looked a lot like me.
That’s about it from me! Hope all well in your corner of the world. I’ll be in touch again on the 15th of the month.
Ciao for Now
JoAnna
