Serialising my Series
I’ve decided to take a different publishing approach for my series, the Luna Legends. There are four seasons and each season is made up of three books totalling around 30k each. So it kind of lends itself to serialisation.
Serialisation is not a new thing, think Charles Dickens, Alexandra Dumas, Wilkie Collins, HG Wells to name but a few that you may know. But newer, modern authors have also dipped their toe in this form of publishing; Stephen King, Margaret Atwood and Michael Chabon for example. Serials have also existed and still exist in other forms with the ever developing technology at our hands; comics, magazines, TV series (often but not exclusively, based on a book) and radio.
In October I shall be releasing the first episode of Book 1 in the series, Thunder Moon, via Substack. The story follows Xanthe who is battling with her newly found legacy as Ayla, the Moon Princess. Will she take up the challenge to find her mother and learn about the skills she needs to lead the Seventh Coven? I’m super excited and I’d love to hear what you think as the story unfolds as well as your thoughts on the experience.
The prequel to the series, Season of the New Moons, is available to purchase via the more normal routes at Amazon and other vendors.
Growing Up
Talking of dreams and moons, it may surprise some of you to know that being a writer wasn’t on my wish list of things I wanted to be when I was a young girl. I loved to read, often after lights out with a torch under the covers. I loved to write and draw my characters. And I loved spelling tests. I just loved words. However, there were other plans afoot.
My grandmother, Hettie, was a matron and a formidable woman, superstitious, tough and independent. My mother, Phyllis, followed in her wake and rose through the nursing profession and had a long service working for our local GP practice, known and loved by all her patients.++
And so my calling was kind of predetermined. I received a nursing set every Christmas and my sole focus was on being accepted into nursing school. I eventually became a District Nursing Sister, following in my mothers footsteps. . . And, well, the rest is another story.
What about you? Did you follow your heart when growing up or were you steered in a certain direction? Did someone act as a role model, or was it a difficult journey? Let me know either in the comments or via email to jolamb@jolambauthor.com.

Coming Next….
In future emails I will be exploring some of the concepts and themes contained in The Luna Legends which include, Moon Myths and Legends, Paganism and Witchcraft. This interest (some might call it an obsession) has promoted the series and I’d like to share some of the inspiration that has empowered me to write Xanthe’s story. As well as bits and pieces about my writing process, my life, my cats… and dogs.
I hope you stick around and I would love to hear from you, please don’t be shy!
Ciao, JoAnna
