Olive Picking News
This time of year around our parts you will hear the dulcet Italian tones and laughter coming from the olive groves. We have 25 trees and our ground slopes quite steeply so it’s not an easy task. However with some quality pruning by my lovely man over the past fourteen years it’s getting easier. This year we picked early, as we usually observe our old neighbours advice of never to pick until after La Festa di San Martino on 11 November. The weather dictated an earlier picking and a good job because the last couple of weeks have been very wet. It took us two days to pick 114kgs of berries and it’s a very satisfying occupation. The yield every year is different depending on lots of stuff I don’t understand and we ended up with 16 litres of beautiful, peppery green oil, at a cost of 21 euros for the pressing. Not bad all in all.
What Are You Thankful For?
I’m making an extra special effort to be thankful for the positive things in life rather than bog myself down with all the other stuff. Simon and I together have a combined family of five sons and in total, to date, we have 9 grandchildren! Four of them we have still yet to meet. We are very grateful that they are all healthy and well and continue to bring lots of joy into our hearts even though we can’t physically give them a hug. (More on that, later.) Their ages range from 21years to 5 months so we’ve been grandparents for a long time. I like to think of myself as a glam gran, still!
What are you thankful for? Do drop me a note or make a comment. I’d love to know. I need to be filled with positive notions.

So, as we are unable to go and hug our new grandchildren for the time being, I’ve made each one of them a cuddle in a quilt! This year I’ve taken up sewing again, something that has lain very dormant for some years and I’m addicted! I’ve learnt something with each one I’ve completed and really chuffed with myself. Its something I can do away from the screen and is so satisfying to achieve. At their tender ages, they won’t understand but it will be a story to tell them in years to come. And I have the wounds to prove it from pins and needles!
Let me know about a favourite hobby of yours… and why.
Flash Fiction Favourite
This very short story (#vss365) was very popular on my twitter feed this last month.
I set up a donation box for unwanted emotions after the accident robbed me of mine. It was a long shot and for years my life has been filled with sorrow, suspicion and heartache. I almost gave up, until today. Someone just sweetened the pot with a dollop of happiness.
That’s it from me for now! Take care and I’ll be in touch on the 1st December…
Ciao for now,
JoAnna
